The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Region V, Chicago will host a special listening session to hear your perspective and obtain your input on the new electronic prescribing provisions set forth in the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA). Section 132 of MIPPA authorizes the Secretary for Health and Human Services to provide incentive payments from 2009 through 2013 to successful electronic prescribers. As described in Section 132, successful electronic prescribers are based on either the reporting of applicable electronic prescribing measures established under the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) or through the use of Part D data.
CMS is planning a two day conference to explain the new electronic prescribing incentives. We will provide further details about the conference on this call. In addition, we want to get your perspective on current topics of interest related to electronic prescribing and discuss some of the more pragmatic issues and challenges to adoption.
